Urban
Teacher Center prepares highly effective teachers who will
significantly accelerate student achievement in the nation's
highest-need schools. We accomplish this by recruiting outstanding
candidates, equipping them with state of the art training, and linking
their certification to their students' performance outcomes. Founded in
2009, Urban Teacher Center is a new organization on the cutting edge of
urban school reform by virtue of its link between teacher effectiveness
and certification eligibility. UTC has offices in Baltimore and in
Washington, DC.
All you need is a bachelor's degree (by May 2015), a 3.0 GPA, and no previous teacher certifications. We accept all majors!
Participants Receive:
- $30,000 scholarship towards master's degree with dual focus (content AND special education)
- $20,000 stipend for residency/training year
- $3,000 healthcare coverage
- $2,000 room/board for summer institute
- $1,500 books/materials
- Guaranteed job in Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD schools (starts around $50,000 per year)
- Two teacher certifications (content AND special education)
*No
other program offers a residency year, master's degree, and special
education certification on top of a teacher certification.

2 short essays, unofficial transcript, resume, and 2 recommendations
(form that takes 5 minutes to complete - just need names/e-mail to
complete application)
- Digital Interview:
online phone interview. It might seem awkward at first, but it is a
fairly simple process that allows you to prepare your answers and let
your true personality shine!
- Final Interview Day:
mini-lesson, group discussion, role play. A full day for interviewers
to get to know the candidates as teachers, graduate students, and
problem solvers!

recruit nationally! Please look at our application deadlines and final
interview day cities to make sure you complete the application on time
and attend the closest final interview day convenient to you! We have a
Baltimore Final Interview Day on December 8th and Washington, DC Final Interview Day on January 10th.
