Welcome to Handshake, UMBC’s new job and internship search platform that focuses on an individualized experience for students, and easier access for employers to post and manage open positions.

UMBCworks to Handshake Transition

During the summer of 2022, the UMBC Career Center has begun the process of transitioning from UMBCworks to Handshake:

For Employers:

  • June 13: Employers actively recruiting UMBC students and alumni invited to join Handshake.
  • July 11-July 29: Any positions posted in UMBCworks, should be closed out. Please download applicant documents (generate applicant packets) by July 29. Follow up with applicants. If you are still recruiting for a position please repost it in Handshake.
  • July 29 Close of Business: All contact accounts (external to UMBC departments) will be disabled/blocked from viewing/posting jobs.

For Students and Alumni:

  • June 27: Student appointment scheduling process moved to Handshake.
  • July 11: Official launch to current students and recent alumni. All new job and internship opportunities will be posted in Handshake moving forward.
  • July through early Fall semester:
    • Students should continue to check in UMBCworks on the status of any positions they previously applied to.
    • Download your documents uploaded to UMBCworks – resumes, cover letters and other documents will not automatically be moved over from one system to the other, you will need to upload your documents to your new account in Handshake.
