Tell us about your internship, co-op, or research opportunity, including your day-to-day responsibilities.

My team worked to develop anti-ransomware software with the potential of receiving a patent for it. Every morning we had short scrum meetings to discuss the goals for that day along with any progress we made the day before. I was in charge of writing scripts to interact with a software based Trusted Platform Module in order to securely encrypt and store data.

Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?

I heard of the position from a family friend and attended the Northrop Grumman internship events at UMBC.

What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization?

I enjoyed receiving real world experience that I couldn't have gotten elsewhere. We were able to work on an actual project and delivered a functional system that, with some polishing, could become a commercial product.

How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?

My team made an impact with our work by providing Northrop Grumman with the opportunity to receive a patent that would directly impact their commercial operations as a business.

What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?

Never say no to experience. Even if you aren't sure what might come out of it or if you're even interested, always seek out ways to grow yourself and your resume so that when the right opportunity does come around, you'll be able to take advantage of it.
