Meet Employers On Campus

Every year, the Career Center hosts hundreds of employers on campus who are eager to meet students like you! Employers do pay attention to those students that make the effort to attend events.

Event formats and expectations vary so do your homework on the event and employer in advance. When in doubt, feel free to contact the Career Center.

An updated schedule of events can be found on our calendar.

Career Fairs

Typically large events featuring multiple employers with tables or booths where you can gather information from employers and have an opportunity to speak briefly with a representative from the organization. This is a great way to introduce yourself and share your resume in person. Try to obtain business cards from employers you meet and always follow up with contacts after the fair. The Career Center hosts several career fairs, co-sponsors off-campus fairs, and advertises many more fairs each year. See the calendar for upcoming fairs.

UMBC Connects

This series offers an opportunities for a single employer to feature their work and employment opportunities. Typically hosted on Wednesdays, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., UMBC Connects give students the chance to get an in-depth look at a company, network with current employees and hiring managers, and ask questions. Plus there’s free lunch! Attire: business casual. See the calendar for this year’s line-up of employers.

Information Sessions

Learn about specific companies and network with recruiters. An invaluable way to prepare for interviews, and some employers may require you to attend an information session if you are scheduled for an on-campus interview with that employer. Keep track of and RSVP for information sessions via the “Events” section of Handshake. Keep in mind, recruiters notice if you are in attendance at the information session. Attire: business casual to professional.

On-Campus Interviews

Employers have the ability to post internship and full-time positions in Handshake, screen and select candidates to interview, and then speak with individuals in 30-60 minute time slots on campus.

The majority of on-campus interviews for full-time positions take place during the fall and the majority of on-campus interviews for summer internships take place during the spring. Application deadlines are typically at least 2 weeks prior to the interview date and professional attire is expected.

Prior to your interview, we recommend that all students review Master the Interview and schedule an appointment with a career specialist for an interview prep (general tips) or practice interview.
