Where are you now?
I work in the Washington Navy Yard as a Personnel Security Specialist for Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

What was the best part of using the Career Services Center in your job search?
CSC had provided students an opportunity to meet with prospective employers at a networking dinner in October. At this event, I met with a recruiter from NCIS and gave him my resume. After the event, I received a call for an interview and was selected for the security specialist position.

CSC also offers employer information sessions, which I attended. I could get a more in depth look at different industries and also hear what employees had to say about their job experiences. CSC gave me helpful tips on how to improve my resume that highlighted my strengths and made me more marketable as a candidate. The staff at CSC always put the student’s interest first. They are always willing to help students and are very approachable, friendly and caring. When I had a question, I called CSC. Ms. Diane Crump Fogle returned my call promptly. She addressed my concern and offered me helpful advice. The staff always offers hope with finding a suitable job in this economy. CSC is a very valuable resource to the UMBC community.

Any advice you would give to other students?
CSC is a great resource and you shouldn’t miss an opportunity to see what they have to offer. The employers who are affiliated with CSC are from varied job sectors. The jobs are suitable to students for all majors. There are multiple ways to find a job that you want. It can be through the online database “umbcworks,” career fairs, employer information sessions, and networking events. Stop by CSC and have your resume critiqued and go to any career related events you are interested in. Remember that looking for a job is itself a job. Be patient and stay positive! CSC is very supportive and you should work with them to come up with a solution to your job related needs.
