Where are you now?
In July 2009 I will start my work/training in the Information Management Leadership Program (IMLP) at GE Capital in Stamford, Connecticut.
What was the best part of using the Career Services Center in your job search?
The Career Services Center was the most helpful in providing a range of resources and ways to meet and interact with potential employers. I was able to take advantage of at least three job fairs which they held on campus, as well as many of the Corporate Visibility Days which they offered. These programs and opportunities gave me the chance to learn more about potential employers, as well as meet current employees one-on-one, to get a better feel for the organization. In addition, UMBCworks is an invaluable tool to be able to apply quickly and easily to the jobs that interest you. And On-Campus Interviews are a must!
Any advice you would give to other students?
For those embarking on a job search, I would definitely suggest doing your homework on the companies that you are most interested in. Before your interview, know what the company is currently involved in and be sure to ask any interviewers what the thing is that they most enjoy about the company. Employees have a tendency to tell it like it is, and you tend to get a very honest opinion from them. In terms of the actual search, I would recommend, those searching for summer internships and co-ops, to not wait until the spring job fairs to start searching. Go to the full-time job fair in the fall and start conversing with employers you are eyeing for the summer. Be sure to let them know when you are graduating, and that you are interested specifically in internships. Some may turn you away if they are only looking for full-time, but others will grab your resume and come the end of Fall/beginning of Spring, your resume will be on the top of the stack for consideration!. |
