Recruiting at UMBC

We offer a broad range of customizable options for you to connect with our students and recruit qualified interns and full-time employees. There are many ways to increase your visibility, promote your organization, and recruit UMBC students. We find that our most successful recruiters stay active on campus throughout the academic year and use a diversified recruiting strategy.

Please read and agree to our Employer Guidelines

Please review the options and resources below and contact us to tailor a recruitment strategy that best meets your organization’s needs.

The UMBC Job Network

Use UMBC’s online system, UMBCworks, to post job and internship announcements, search resumes, screen candidates, manage on-campus interview schedules and pre-recruiting events. Please contact Joan Allen, recruitment coordinator, at jallen@umbc.edu to learn more about this free recruitment tool.

Information Session

Hosting an information session enables you to educate students about your organization and available opportunities. Typically, information sessions are an hour in length, held between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday. They take place from mid-September through November, and from mid-February through April.

UMBC Connects

Each semester, UMBC sets aside several days for partnering organizations to be showcased on campus. Through our UMBC Connects program, your organization has the opportunity to be highlighted during a one-day event, increasing your visibility as a key employing institution and partner of the UMBC community. Your day will be tailored to your organization’s needs and specific goals. Traditional schedules include information sessions, career-related workshops, alumni networking events, lunch and/or receptions, etc. Your event will be highlighted on campus via an extensive advertising campaign, allowing all UMBC students the opportunity to become familiar with your organization as an employer of choice. The Career Center will assist you in designing your day, and will take care of campus advertising and logistics such as parking, reserving facilities, ordering catering and securing audio/visual equipment. All-inclusive pricing for this event is $1,500.

Employer Table

Employer outreach tables are a powerful way to connect with students and extend your brand on campus throughout the day in a casual setting. We are happy to reserve a table for you in a high-traffic student area during the academic year.

On-Campus Interviews

We have a select number of rooms designated exclusively for on-campus interviews. Interview space must be reserved in advance and is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Career Fairs and Networking Opportunities

UMBC hosts campus-wide job and internship fairs during the fall and spring semesters to help you build student awareness of your organization and recruit talented candidates for internships and jobs. Please take a minute to complete the Employer Interest Form to let us know how you would like to interact with UMBC students.

Partnership Program

An effective recruiting plan requires building relationships and establishing a presence on campus. Become a UMBC Career Center Partner and create a lasting impression with our talented students. You will have the opportunity to establish your organization’s brand through a number of venues and develop meaningful connections with students, faculty and staff. We will work with you to develop an annual, customized recruiting plan to help you reach your goals. For more information, contact Sue Plitt, Associate Director for recruiting and marketing, at 410-455-2340.
