Data Privacy Policy

The Career Services Center (CSC) of The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is committed to providing privacy of personal information for users of the Career Services Center. The Career Services Center operates computer systems that are developed and maintained by University technical staff. The Career Services Center also partners with external organizations for reference materials, the resume database, on-campus recruiting, job listings and credentialing services. Information regarding those partner organizations can be found below.

Information collected and maintained by the CSC is for the purpose of providing comprehensive career and job search assistance to the UMBC student and alumni population. Information in the system (UMBCworks) may also be used to generate reports to assist with future planning and to relay progress to UMBC constituents. UMBCworks is a shared system of UMBC's Career Services Center, The Shriver Center, Corporate Relations and the Erickson School of Aging.

The CSC's collection and access to students' personal information is governed by federal policy under the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

UMBCworks:
Comprehensive job listings (on-campus, part-time and full-time), resumes, on-campus recruiting, and event calendars are provided in partnership with the NACElink Network, a national recruiting network. NACElink is an alliance of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), a nonprofit professional organization for career centers and employers, the Direct Employers Association, a nonprofit association of national employers, and Symplicity, a state-of-the-art technology provider of web-based tools and software solutions. Please refer to the websites of these respective partners for details of their privacy practices.

Students' profile data and resumes will reside on NACElink Network servers, and policies governing this data are covered in the NACElink Privacy Policy.

Student and employer information from UMBCworks may be used to construct aggregate reports that assist the CSC in program planning for statistical reports or to inform clients of services and programs that may be of interest.

Jobs posted on UMBCworks are from thousands of employers across the country. They are not screened by NACE and may or may not be screened by CSC staff depending on when and how they are entered. Users are urged to validate job postings and use caution and common sense when applying. The CSC staff strongly advises students to not disclose social security numbers, credit card information or bank account numbers to unknown employers. The University and the CSC cannot be held responsible and/or liable for any damages, real or imagined, past, present or future, from the information contained in or requested by the job postings.
