Alumni

1. What services are available to me as an alumni?

Job Listings and Resume Referrals ($50/semester) – includes job search engines and resume referrals via UMBCworks to employers seeking experienced candidates.

Individual Career Counseling ($30/appointment) – available in person, telephone and email.

Workshops and Job Fairs – Please check our Calendar for upcoming workshops and job fairs.

Dependable Strengths Workshop ($125/two day) – This workshop is designed for alumni who are seeking a career change, have been downsized from their current profession or are simply interested in exploring how they might enhance their current employment situations. Read more . . .

2. At what point am I considered an alumni at the Career Services Center?

You may access all of the same services at no charge for up to one semester after you graduate. (December graduates – services through May) (May graduates – services through August) (August graduates – services through December).

Services are also available to alumni after the initial grace period of one semester. These services are fee-based. (Appointments-$20) (UMBCworks-$30 per semester)

3. What is UMBCworks and how do I open an account?

UMBCworks is an online system allows you to post your resume, view and apply for online part and full-time jobs. UMBCworks is available to alumni for a fee of $30 per semester. You can either come in to open the account - or you can mail a check payable to UMBC to:

1) What the check is for
2) Your full name, address, telephone number and email address
3) Your major and graduation date.

Once your check is received, we would open your account and email you the log in information.

4. How can I make an appointment with a Career Specialist?

Please call us to schedule an appointment at 410-455-2216. Appointments with career specialists are scheduled for one-hour intervals.

5. How can I get help with my resume?

Sample resumes are provided in our Career Development Guide and/or use the Resume Template. Once you have a draft resume prepared you can make an appointment with one of our Career Specialists ($20 per appointment). See how to make an appointment above in Question 4. Also, be sure to look at our workshop schedule for special programs focusing on resumes.

6. Where can I find a list of all your upcoming events and job fairs?

On our Calendar of Events section. Also, UMBCworks has a comprehensive calendar of all of our career events. If you need information on opening a UMBCworks account, see question three.

7. What are Corporate Visibility Days?

Fall and spring semesters, government and private sector employers schedule Corporate Visibility Days to educate students/alumni about their interest in UMBC’s students/alumni as future employees, their organization and their job opportunities. Each visibility day focuses on one employer and includes activities like information sessions, resume workshops, networking lunches, and technical demonstrations – free food and giveaways are always a part of the day. Students/alumni can attend all or part of each Visibility Day. Information on the semester’s Corporate Visibility Day schedule and each day’s program can be found in event and calendar section of UMBCworks and on the calendar of this website. Please check the information on the event for any possible RSVP requirements. If you need information on opening a UMBCworks account, see question three.
